About Doctoral Program

Ph.D. is one of the prestigious programs of MRIIRS, governed by the Council for Doctoral Program (CDP). CDP’s prime function is to facilitate, monitor and assure the quality of research work. With a humble beginning of Ph.D. program in the year 2009, CDP now boasts 700+ active scholars (registered) and 281 awarded Ph.D. degrees in the field of Engineering, Management, Social Sciences, Education, Economics, and Dental Sciences, as on today.

CDP’s mission is to contribute to the development of education through research, teaching, innovation and institution building. CDP has a large number of distinguished faculty whose contributions to research are exemplary.

  • A 1-year/2-semester master's degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.
  • Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s (Hons. With Research) degree (excluding B.Tech, BPT, B-Design and BDS degree) programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
  • Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time. The candidates qualified MPhil before Dec 2023 with minimum 55% marks are also exempted from the entrance examination.
  • For School of Leadership and Management Studies/ School of Commerce: Master's Degree or any other degree recognized equivalent thereto in Business Administration or Economics or Commerce or in allied subjects or Two years Post Graduate Diploma in Management recognized as equivalent to MBA by AICTE/AIU or Graduates having passed their final examination of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India/CS/ICWA with 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed). The provision needs to be approved and updated as per the latest UGC guidelines.

  • Ph.D. Programme shall be for a minimum duration of three years, including course work, and a maximum duration of six (6) years from the date of admission to the Ph.D. programme.
  • A maximum of an additional two (2) years can be given through a process of re-registration as per the MRIIRS policy, a Ph.D. programme should not exceed eight (8) years from the date of admission in the Ph.D. programme years.
  • Persons with Disabilities (having more than 40% disability) / female Ph.D. scholars may be allowed relaxation of two (2) years recommended by DRC however, the total period for completion of a Ph.D. programme in such cases should not exceed ten (10) years from the date of admission n the Ph.D. programme.
  • Female Ph.D. Scholars may be provided Maternity Leave/Child Care Leave (children up to 18 years of age) for up to 240 days in the entire duration of the Ph.D. programme.
  • The Ph.D. duration will be considered from the applicable last day of admission for the respective admission cycle provided her/his candidature gets subsequently approved by the Academic Council till the submission of final approved thesis of her/his research work.

The University shall notify well in advance, on the institutional website and through advertisement in at least two (2) national newspapers, of which at least one (1) shall be in the regional language.

The number of seats for admission, subject/ discipline-wise distribution of available seats, criteria for admission, procedure for admission, examination centre(s) where entrance test(s) shall be conducted and all other relevant information, applications for admission to Ph.D. Programmes of its various faculties, for the benefit of candidates.

The application form is to be filled Online when so announced and/or advised by the University. The candidate must indicate the faculty to which the admission is being sought. In case a candidate wishes to apply to more than one field(s) of research or faculty, separate choices, preference-wise, may be mentioned in the application form.

  • The application received shall be scrutinized for eligibility criteria as laid down in the
    Ordinance 8(C).All candidates shall be required to appear in an Entrance Test
    (Online-mode) and Interview to test his/her aptitude towards research.
  • The provisional admission of candidates shall be made, based on the test, followed by an interview and presentation.
  • The date of the online test will be announced through the website of the University. The syllabus of the Entrance Test shall consist of 50% of research methodology and 50% shall be subject-specific.
  • The Entrance Test shall be qualifying with 50% marks.
  • The candidates who qualify for the  examination will be given 06 working days to meet the prospective supervisors in their respective departments to discuss their area of research & presentation.

  • A 90-minute entrance test of 70 marks is mandatory for candidates to qualify for admissions.
  • The syllabus for the entrance test shall consist of 50% of Research Methodology as Part-A and 50% shall be subject specific as Part-B.
  • 35 MCQs in Part-A and Part-B each and one mark will be awarded for each right answer.
  • The candidates who qualify UGC/CSIR (JRF)/M.Phil. and UGC NET examination are exempted from the Entrance Test.
  • Students who qualify the Entrance Test and the exempted candidates shall be called for the Personal Interview (30 Marks).
